The Delhi Metro is expanding rapidly to reduce congestion in the city. Soon, a mega expansion of the Delhi Metro will take place, under which 27 new metro stations will be constructed. With the addition of these new stations, heavy crowding in several busy areas is expected to ease significantly. Let’s take a look at where these 27 new Delhi Metro stations are planned to be built.
A New Underground Corridor to Be Constructed
Under Delhi Metro Phase IV, a new 40.109-kilometer underground corridor is being developed. This phase includes approximately 86 kilometers of new metro lines across five different corridors. This is considered a major engineering challenge, as the underground corridor will pass through various geological layers. The corridor will especially cover densely populated and commercial areas such as Sadar Bazaar, Nabi Karim, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Ajmal Khan Park, and New Delhi.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is constructing over 40 kilometers of underground corridors as part of this Phase IV expansion.
Construction Work on the Underground Section
In this phase, the Delhi Metro will build five separate corridors totaling around 86 kilometers of new lines. The underground corridor will make up nearly half of the total length. According to metro officials, 27 underground stations will be constructed under this phase. DMRC has already completed the construction of a two-kilometer underground stretch from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park, which is an extension of the Magenta Line.
Where Will This Metro Corridor Be Built?
The process of developing the new Delhi Metro corridors is progressing rapidly. The Union Cabinet approved this expansion plan at the beginning of 2025. According to the proposal, the new corridor will also include a National Museum as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project.
Proposed Stations
With the construction of the new Delhi Metro corridor, congestion in several crowded parts of the capital will be significantly reduced. After the completion of Kartavya Path, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of tourists visiting this area. The proposed corridor will feature metro stations at key landmarks such as Bharat Mandapam, India Gate, North Block, and South Block, among others.
