School Holiday : The government has suddenly announced a 10-day holiday for schools, effective immediately. As per the official order, all schools will remain closed till October 18. Let’s find out which states have been directed to implement this closure.

All Schools Closed Till October 18

According to the latest update, schools in Karnataka have been given an unexpected break. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that from October 8 to October 18, all government and aided schools in the state will remain closed.

The reason behind this sudden decision is the ongoing Caste-Based Socio-Educational Survey. Teachers across the state are currently engaged in carrying out this survey. Initially, the survey began on September 22 and was supposed to end by Tuesday, but the work has been delayed in several districts. Therefore, the Chief Minister and his cabinet have decided to extend the survey period by 10 days, during which no academic activities will be conducted in schools.

Instructions Issued in Meeting with Ministers and Officials

In a recent meeting with ministers and senior officials, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah discussed the survey’s progress. The survey work was originally scheduled to be completed by October 7, but while some districts have made significant progress, others are lagging behind.

For instance, Koppal district has completed 97% of the survey, while Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts have completed only 63% and 60%, respectively. The Chief Minister expressed concern that the survey work across the state has not been completed as expected.

Only 34% of the Survey Completed in Bengaluru So Far

According to Siddaramaiah, in Bengaluru, only 34% of the survey work has been completed so far, with 6,700 teachers currently involved in the process. The Karnataka Primary and Secondary School Teachers’ Association and Congress MLC Uthana requested the government to grant additional time to finish the survey properly.

The teachers’ association stated that they would need at least 10 more days to complete the work efficiently. Following their request, the Department of Education, in consultation with the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, decided to declare holidays for all schools so that teachers can focus fully on the survey.
